ZakenNet is a local, trust-based business networking organization in the Netherlands aimed at stimulating the local economy. Entrepreneurs meet weekly during a breakfast session to recommend each other to contacts (generating leads), share knowledge, and expand their network.
During my internship at Rootz Media, I got to attend a ZakenNet breakfast session twice. Both times, I was given the opportunity to give a short pitch. I found this quite nerve-wracking beforehand, because I had to talk about myself in front of a group of about 25 adults.
I soon realized that there was absolutely no need to be nervous. Everyone was open and friendly, which made it a lot easier. The first time, I introduced myself. The second time, I talked more about my Social Design degree.
Through this experience, I learned how important it is to build and maintain a network. I also received positive feedback from the entrepreneurs. They felt that I came across as mature and that it was impressive that I just did it. I found it a pleasant experience and am glad I had the opportunity to learn more about real business life.
