De Kas van Kaat is a social enterprise on the outskirts of Zwolle that functions as a green meeting place with a lunch café, shop, bakery, and nursery. For De Kas van Kaat, I contributed to an extensive website. This was my first real web project, during which I learned how a website is built from start to finish.

Assignment
During my internship at Rootz Media, I worked on the new website for De Kas van Kaat. The existing website was outdated and needed to be renewed. The assignment consisted of designing multiple pages and improving the web copy. Because a lot of content was required, I rewrote the texts with the support of an AI tool developed within Rootz Media. This was the first website I worked on, so it was also a learning process in which I had to learn how to use WordPress and Avada.
Process
I started by creating a digital web design in Adobe. This helped me to think ahead about the layout and appearance of the website. After that, I started building the website in WordPress using Avada. I experimented a lot with layouts and learned how pages are technically structured. We were provided with a lot of imagery for the website. I looked at how these images could best be showcased within the design.
During the project, I visited the location several times together with my internship supervisor. There, we discussed the progress and the client's wishes. Through this, I learned how communication with clients works and how to process feedback.
Result
De Kas van Kaat's new website is now live and aligns better with their image and offerings. The client is satisfied with the result and now has a clear and well-organized website.
For me, this was an important learning project. I learned how WordPress and Avada work, how to structure web copy, and how client contact works.
